We spotted this group of whales about a mile off shore from
Yuraygir NP in NSW and observed them for over an hour as they
traveled down the coast. Too far away to get any seriously
good shots, this series shows some of the behaviour we saw.
The tails in the air were whales slapping their tails, perhaps
fishing or just having fun. Others were lying on their sides or
backs and slapping the water with their main flippers. The smallest
whale spent a great deal of time breaching but the largest only showed
its flippers entirely our of the water. We were entrhalled and ended
up with stiff necks from peering through binoculars and camera.
