Orion-Crop

Frostbite Falls

I cropped the original star trails to show other objects in our night sky. The stars will trail due to the earth's rotation - but if you look closely on the right, and left side of the frame you will see 3 small round objects.

These are geosynchronous satellites - in fixed orbital positions. Three visible in one small patch of sky. There are hundreds of satellites of various types up there, all placed in specific locations around the earth to ensure they will show up in my astrophotographs. There is no way to avoid them when shooting long exposures with film, and become part of the recorded scene. The "geo-sats" are barely noticeable. It's those bright lower level "sats" that run through the middle of the image that drive me nuts.
