A flash diffuser made of Tupperware, lightly sanded on both sides. I looked for the thicker Tupperware in a rectangular canister from which I cut four sheets.
Without the diffuser the on-camera flash would be blocked by the lens. This actually put out too much light and I had to add layers to keep from blowing out mid-tones.
I made up an LED ring-light for my film camera but this works much better. The bottom part is in the shadow of the lens, so it leaves some nice soft shadows. And using the on-camera flash makes it about as easy as can be..
I have another one that just fits over the 55mm step-up ring on the camera for diffusing normal flash pics. Both pieces slip into my back pocket or the side pocket of the camera bag.
