2006.11.01 Water management (4): Saturation

Somewhere East of Monterey, California

20060823 126.jpg

This was rather remarkable. As we drove towards Monterey in mid-late afternoon, there was a grey cloud lying low on the land ahead and to the side. I had the strong impression that there was so much water sprayed into the air that it created an artificial mist; but I think that's impossible, because it streatched on for several miles. I guess it must just have been the atmospheric conditions, combined with the spray at ground level, which created the impression.

It was a bit spooky, actually, because it was quite dark when the cloud started to block the sun.

As with the last few pictures, we were "following the GPS" from Fresno to Monterey, and the display wasn't adequate to tell us exactly where we were when I took this shot.

Update: 2006.11.04 I have uploaded a new version; the only difference is that I removed the rubbish in the top-right corner of the shot. (There was a tiny thread on the sensor that day, as I subsequently discovered.)

Not spooky to me and I like it! Very nicely composed, moving our eyes by layer of soil, grass, water, cable and cloud. The green stretch added interest to the moody subdued color. Amazing indeed.
