< Pátzcuaro Country Scenes >
Rural scenery near Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, México
< Lago Zirahuen >
Deeper, bluer, and less contaminated than better-known Lago Pátzcuaro, Lago Zirahúen is worth a visit for those in search of beauty and tranquility.
< Rancho La Mesa >
High above Pátzcuaro, el Rancho La Mesa offers dining in a relaxed, country atmosphere, with a beautiful view of the town and of Lake Pátzcuaro beyond. They also rent "villas", cabins in a traditional style of regional architecture.
Ostriches are raised and the meat is served as one of the restaurant's specialties.
As we have never eaten more than guacamole and tortilla chips and beers there, we don't have any opinions as to the food and service.
< El Mercado de Pátzcuaro >
The market in Pátzcuaro is a place of commerce, color, food, social interaction and life.
I love to visit there, although it can be tiring.
< Los Panes Mexicanos y Michoacanos >
There is a rich variety of breads made in Mexico, and sold at a very low price. The breads of the Pátzcuaro, Michoacán region are especially fascinating in their designs. There are more designs available than there are distinctive doughs, but this is true in other countries as well.
At this time I have no idea of how many panaderías there are in and around Pátzcuaro.
< Tortillerías >
A few photos of tortilla making and the resultant product.
< Street Food >
Some of the best food in Mexico is found at street stalls; the food is fresh, hot and the price is right. But care is advised in choosing where to eat.
For the sake of organization, I am including foods from mercado comedores, taquerías, birrerías and the like, although strictly speaking, they are inside, not on the street.

< 2º Encuentro de Las Cocineras Tradicionales de Michoacán >
This event took place in Pátzcuaro the 2nd through the 4th of December, 2005.
It was colorful, educational, vibrant and delicious.
< Tamalli-El Sabor Del Buen Tamal >
Tamalli is a small chain of high quality tamal takeouts in Mexico City. These are really something special, although the place looks like a "plastic" chain franchise. We visited the one at Avenida Campeche, Colonia Roma. Well worth a visit.
< Casas Abandonadas Cerca de Pátzcuaro >
Mysterious abandoned two storey dwellings, on a quiet road to the muelles on Lago Pátzcuaro.
< Lago Pátzcuaro Drives >
Scenes from a drive around Lago Pátzcuaro, with emphasis on a stop at Restaurante Sandio y Cabañas.
Updated on May 9, 2006, displaying a few shots from the northeastern arm of the lake. The unpaved road to Tzintzuntzan, often as much as 200 feet above the lake, is undergoing improvements. The area is served by colectivos which link the fishing settlements scattered along the shore.
UPDATE: the road is now completely paved.

< DESAYUNOS >
Los desayunos Mexicanos son ricos.
Mexican breakfasts are delicious.
Voy a mostrarles unos ejemplos. Empiezo con unos chilaquiles.
I'll show you some examples. I'll begin with some chilaquiles.
Los Mexicanos, por la mayoría desayunan tarde, a las 9-10 de la mañaña.
The Mexicans as a general rule, breakfast late, about 9-10 AM.
< Cuanajo Feria >
The walk from La Vitela to Cuanajo was a favorite of ours when we lived out in Quercus, on the road to Santa Clara de Cobre.
The town itself would not be attractive to visitors if it were not for the many mueblerías (furniture workshops and stores.) We briefly visited Cuanajo during its Fiesta Patronal in September, 2006. This was fun, although the feria was not in full swing yet. There were some irresistible fair foods.

< Tiendas de Abarrotes >
Mexico's small "Mamá y Papá" 'corner' stores are everywhere. (Sometimes found in the middle of the block as well). La tienda Don Chucho is popular for its large and varied selection, somehow packed into a small space.
< Mescalería >
This traditional mescalería is located at Oponguio, along the northern shore of Lake Pátzcuaro. It is open to the public. Free samples are provided by the genial owner.
Both tequila and mescal are made.
< Quiroga Feria de La Independencia >
We sought carnitas, and we found them, as well as a few other delicacies, at the Feria de la Independencia in Quiroga, Michoacán.

The accomodations were very comfortable, and the food was wonderful. I'll be adding to this gallery as time goes on.
