There were forest fires burning all up and down the Sierra this August. Normally you could see almost all the way to Yosemite Valley from this point. Here you can barely make out Cathedral Peak - five miles away on the other side of Tuolumne Meadows - through the smoke and haze. Nonetheless the Gaylor Lakes were beautiful and very clear. This is near where we saw the laughing pika (can't describe it, you'll just have to ask when you see one of us).
