This was a tough one between Colin's "Who are they?" and "Egrets in the Mist". I voted yours the best due to it's difficulty factor over Colin's Swans. Both are exceptional but this one just had that extra umph....!

Absolutely superb, Shirley!

A wonderful shot Shirley. You are really demonstrating that the E-300 in the right hands is capable of excellent results. Well done. Dennis

This photo reminds us all of the beauties in life that abound on this planet called Earth, if only we look. And as Shirley said, it often doesn't take much. Wonderful.

wait a minute; i thought it was supposed to be gorillas in the mist. oh, well. this is soooo sharp, and the white egrets against the drab backdrop is splendiferous. magnificent shot.

You guys are so silly, I can see a number of shots I would trade for!

As for where it was taken. It was taken along the Minnesota River. Black Dog Road runs along the river and also a large power plant is out there. The power company has made 2 outlets/inlets? that go from a preserve area into the river. It was at one of these outlets where the water rushes through a damn type thing, that the fishing is good for eagles, herons and egrets so it's a good place to try and spot some birds.

I'm glad you all like it. Thanks very much.

Oooh. Thats lovely Shirley... I'll put my camera away as it won't be needed for a week or two! Superb. Alistair

Great picture Shirley, wish it was mine.

I keep coming back to this photo. So sharp and not even an IS. Wow....
Where was this taken?
Miroslav Kral 17-Oct-2007 20:43
Have to add, nice pair of birds. Of course agree with others.

Oh my, thank you for all the kind words! This was another shot where I did very little, only cropped, a tiny bit of contrast and a sharpening and I removed a 3rd bird that seemed distracting. I think I'll post the original with nothing done but resizing just so you can see.

Now as far as the next theme goes HA there are so many excellent shots in this gallery that any one of you should be thinking as hard (if not harder) then me!

You're finding to make harder the votation huh?
This 50-200 is a magic wand in your hands, and you are producing a bunch of great photos with!
I love every aspect and detail in this photo. endika

Nah its not that good.... Let me see, hmm, tones beautiful, subjects sharp, framing excellent, subtle detail in the wings, fallen tree in background adding atmosphere, amplified by the muted tones of the forest behind.
I know whats wrong, they are flying from right to left....Told you it is no good :-)
Seriously, you had better start thinking what the next theme is going to be!

I'll just put camera down now, I've found the winner

Love the dark background Shirley, makes the birds seem ethereal,

Shirley, this is awesome. The way those birds stand out against the background. They are so white, yet you can still see the feathers. The composition is also perfect. I have seen some great pictures in this competition, but maybe you should start thinking about a new theme.

Now this one is going to give someone a run for their money. This is a winner Shirley. The crystal clarity of the birds with the blurred background indicating motion is just superb. Very very nice.
