Fes, Morocco. This is one of the vats where they dye leather. Not a very healthy job and it's a pity the picture doesn't convey the smell, pretty overpowering it was.

Saw this area on a PBS show today... the leather sits in these vats as long as 24 days... after softening in a vat of lye and pigeon poop for a couple weeks. As thick and read as that liquid looks, you'd think the man and his cloths would be colored as well. I think tho, it's just as well that you can't include the aroma with this photo!
