On Saturday, April 5, 2008, just a few miles south of the TN line in DeSoto Co, MS, I counted 1,100 American Golden Plovers in wet fields. By watching the lookouts, I was alerted to flock after flock of Goldens streaming northward. I ended the afternoon with over 3,300+ migrating overhead for an afternoon with numbers approaching 5,000 plovers, knowing many more passed unseen.
