When we returned an hour later, we lucked up on the bird feeding out in the field. The bird is quite small and as you can see can be easily overlooked. It was feeding vigorously under the dry stems of Barnyard Grass and occasionally under Panicum. On our unsuccessful trip Thursday, I had noticed a lot of the seeds from these two plants were scattered about. There is a large mixed flock of Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs along with many Savannah Sparrows also foraging in the field.
