1977 Honda Civic. The Civic was one of the first popular Japanese imports.

Running on regular gasoline and without using a catalytic converter, the Honda Civic was the first vehicle to meet the Clean Air Act standards, according to the exhibit.

Thank you for your comment, which I deeply appreciate. Your are right. The original caption was wrong. The car may have been mislabeled as a 1974 model at the exhibit in 2006, or I may have written down the model year incorrectly, or I may have made an error when I typed the caption. The mistake was probably mine. In any case, after reading your message, I rechecked the exhibit's Web site, athttp://americanhistory.si.edu/onthemove/exhibition/, and it identifies this car as a 1977 model. Interesting if that is labelled as a 1974 at the smithsonian. The car pictured is a CVCC model, and they didn't come to the states until the 1975 model. The CVCC was the Honda answer to the Cat convertors that were required on all cars as of 1975.
