An uncommon ascomycete not often recorded. Here on a fallen Sweet Chestnut branch. It resembles the common Annulohypoxylon multiforme found frequently on birch, or the smaller Annulohypoxylon cohaerens often seen on beech. If KOH is added to a small piece of ground-up fungus a red-violet pigment is released as in the photo. The colour is peculiar to this species.
