22nd May pictish stone

The Maiden Stone,
It has Pictish symbols on this side,
and a Celtic cross on the other.
The sides are carved with Celtic designs too.
The clouds were darkening as I approached,
and a loud clap of thunder sent me off home.
A heavy shower started soon after.

This really does trigger the imaginatio. I'm sure they had meaning to the carvings when they were done, wonder if theirs been studies done.

Looks like it was nasty storm there. What is a Maiden stone?

I would like a window in time to look through to see this stone being carved.

Looks like a mirror and a comb on the bottom panel; that must be why it's called the maiden stone...:^)

The big pictish stone-ness (you need to go to the Pictish stone museum at Meigle)

Nice story, I had a day quite like you. I just missed a good downpour too!
Excellent detail on the stone, beautiful green grass. Great composition too!

I also love the combination of this rock and the background sky with its threatening clouds. Very powerful image.

Wonderful art. Did you and Lee compare notes on your PaD today?
Sheena Woodhead22-May-2005 17:35
The storm clouds may be gathering here but they look good as the backdrop to this very interesting stone.
