You have some AMAZING talent on so many levels!!!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful and intelligent bird, (Raven) I love everything about them, I watch every show that is on TV about them also, the symbol they have with the native people, along with the eagle/bear/bison, it has a terrific history with the Indian culture, once again thank you for what you do for these wonderful creatures.

I looked at your Raven portfolio first, and read some of the comments. I have always felt close to Raven, because I have often been helped/warned of danger by them. I wouldn't have found that out but for your site. this is not what I started out to say...YOur photographic art is mind-boggling, awe inspiring. I'm sharing your site with others, it's so wonderful. The ravens lead me to the other portfolios...thank you. I am from the Kamloops area and speak Raven somewhat. Better quit blathering...Thanks again

Oh my goodness! Or rather, Oh Your goodness!! I've just been through your gallery and am stunned by the patience and artistry behind each of your pictures -- the composition, the lighting, the animation or stillness, the wetness, the taste, the feel . . .beauty captured, or rather, beauty set free. Thank you for sharing this gift of beauty. And thank you for taking time to talk with us yesterday at Jericho. I have written the Stewardship Group about the matter of powered model boats and copied to you. Not sure what we can do, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Susan L

You have given my wife and I losts of pleasure with your intelligent and precise photography. I particularly like the ravens which I'm trying, in vain, to photograpth in Haute Provence, where I live. Have not given up and, in the meantime, have photographed quite a few magpies that are also hard to take. Peter

Some of the most beautiful images I have seen from any camera, Norman. "WOW" seems woefully inadequate, but that's what I said when I opened most of your pictures.

My question is: How the heck did you get all these wildlife to pose for you like that? What did you offer as a bribe?

Norman, I have viewed a few pieces of your wonderful photographic work on the Sony Talk Forum at DPReview. I was reading many of the F828 posts, I have owned one since December and am learning to love it as it is my first real digital camera. I found your compositions some of the best that I saw there, and tonight I skipped on over here to feast. Wonderful, wonderful. You have a great gift with the camera. I am a finish carpenter/artist, multi-mediums and find the interest, intimacy and composition very artful indeed. Thank you very much for putting yourself up here to be appreciated. You raise the bar for every one who looks to reflect the interest and beauty in life.

Norm,

I love your work. I read your article in the STF @ dpreview and enjoyed your comments.

The Lord has blessed you with both, talent in sight, and wisdom.

I wish my eye could see to compose a shot as you do. By your photos, it seems you have a great inner peace. This allows you to see beauty in your surroundings that others pass by without noticing.

Your work is really a work of art. May God continue to bless you with the ability to photograph the beauty in the world He has created.

God bless.

Hi Norman:
I have been viewing your photos again and each time I do I'm more and more impressed and in awe. They are much more than photos, they show who you are...your feeling for nature, your love of art, your sense of color...your ability to go inside the subject and give the person viewing your work the sense that they are seeing it right along with you...that they are there experiencing exactly what you are experiencing in that very moment. Thank you for sharing some of your great life moments!!!

Hi Norman. I enjoyed reading your comments at dpreview (Reflections). It looks like you have some wonderful galleries and I'll have to come back to check out more (slow connection). I just added you to my favorite artists . . . and gave you my vote for the one I viewed (so far). – Tom

Enjoyed your 707 and 717 galleries. You certainly take both cameras to new heights.
Then again ...it's the photographer...not the camera he uses. I myself also use the 707
and just ordered a 717. If you have a chance I would appreciate any comments from you on my pbase galleries. Most of my images are urban oriented...the opposite of you. www.pbase.com/sproket
All the best.
Marcel-Etienne07-Apr-2003 15:29
Hi Norman,
Maybe these comments are not necessary, since you already know how much I appreciate you as a person, as a fine artist and as a photographer as well. Yet, every time I come back to your galleries -- and this is quite often! -- I feel this urging impulse to let you know that, when viewed as a whole, these wonderful pictures of the Canadian west coast constitute the most impressive series I've ever seen.
Your galleries are the best proof of what you have been advocating so consistently, when helping others to discover their abilities and become better photographers: "purposeful intent", "relaxed attention"... They reveal the true meaning and the full potential of this approach, to which you have added a highly individual sense of empathy, in front of nature and natural wonders, as well as a truly remarkable dedication to art.
Magnificent!
Your friend, Marcel-Etienne
Guest 27-Mar-2003 08:23
Simply wonderful photographs. I haven't seen all of them yet but have viewed a few. One I saw tonight was F717 - 2003 - Expressions | 17. The little girl walking along the edge of the river or whatever that is really caught my attention. She looks like she is deep in thought and thinking as she walks along. Then you realize she is just a little girl and it hits you more.
vincent logeot 17-Mar-2003 19:03
Hello mister Rich, my name is vincent. I am living in Belgium, i'm an actor. I met Marcel Etienne, one of your friends, i think. He explained me what is your way to create in photography and in painting. I was well impressed, so I wanted to dicover your work. And my feeling is that it's really primal art. a kind of "roots art". (please excuse me, my english is not very good). So I want to exprimate that to you.

Very Friendly;
Vincent from Belgium.

I happened upon your site because of your "Pacific Northwest Sampler"(I just moved from Seattle) and, holy cow dude, your pics are amazing! I shoot with a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S75 and my pics look nothing like yours. It's an amazing camera that takes amazing photos, but whatever model of Cyber-Shot you're using is magic in the hands of your talent. Thanks for the incredible pics for all of us to view. Be well...

I am a regular visitor to your photo website. I am refreshed whenever I enjoy all the photos there. I was choked with the photo No.17 Saltwater Treasures: f707. A lonely fish is swimming in trubid seawater with a drop of tear rolling down her gill. See her expression on her face,it is grievous and aimless. It reminds me of a story. One day, a fish said to the sea ¡° You can¡¯t feel my tears, for I am in you.¡± The sea said, ¡° I am feeling them, because you are in my heart.¡±
Thanks for your so many nice photos here.

Beautiful images along the coast. I like their colours and purity, and though they look simple, I know that they take a lot of work to "find", compose, select and post. We are in a relatively mild winter here in Ottawa, and it is hard to find picturesque subjects and landscapes at this time of year.

I have just acquired an F707 as well, my first digital camera, and your gallery provides inspiration. Thanks for posting these collections.

Norman,
I have been a professional graphic designer and photographer for 31 years.
I am also a perfectionist when doing an assignment(my own worst enemy).
I know what exceptional creative talent is.
Your work is with out a doubt, some of the best I have seen in any of the publications I have been involved in.Their have been many.
Your work goes beyond composition and into poetry. The Sony optics perform beautifully when in the hands of someone who can compose images of this quality.
I enjoyed your gallery and will look forward to other images you post in the future.
Donald Truett 01-Dec-2001 19:23
Asked for pics w/ more color than the DPR gallery-someone directed me here. Awesome photos w/ the 707 & great composition. Read your 707 imaging comments w/ interest, as I am about to buy 85 or 707. New, so don't know if a question is OK, but... despite your comments on the 707 for beginners, as someone who gets deep in new interests over time, would you say the 707 would be OK to start w/ manual settings and learn aperture/shutter over time, or would you advise the S85? Thanks and sorry if the question is a faux pas(?).
Jerry & Gemma 26-Nov-2001 05:15
What beautiful pictures they are! I like Pacific Northwest the most.

What an eye for composition and color! On STF we get a lot of shots that are OK and very few that are wonderful... guess where yours fall? Thank you for sharing these!

Found the link to your photo album while reading about Sony digital cameras at dpreview.com. I've used 35mm SLR cameras for 20 yrs now and I want to venture into the world of digital photography. I was doing image comparisons and I keep returning to the images shot with the 707, they seem so much more defined and brilliant than those of other Sony digital cameras. After seeing your spectacular images I have to say I'm quite impressed with not only the quality of the images from the 707, but your keen eye for photo composition and subject matter. I'm sitting here at work and after seeing the beautiful photos I want to escape outside somewhere and start shooting...well, of course it would be much nicer if I already had the digital camera! Getting close to purchasing but being very careful and choosy about doing so. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and helping chalk up some points for the 707. - Roberta

Were those images really captured with a mere Sony 505V?
That's the same as Ansel Adams going into the hills and doing his 'thing' with a cardboard 'throwaway'!!
Wonderful!

Thanks for letting me know about your web page Norman. Your feeling for the subjects and the intensity of their characteristics continues, no matter what medium you choose.

Norman, I was the guy on the R65 that came to look at your rental property. I had a look at your photos - good stuff. If you ahve any Photoshop questions, send me an email. Remember what I said about colour correction, curves are your best friend.

Hi, Norman...exquisite depth of colour...I feel the photos are cinematographic : they invite one to step into the scene to explore it further...They pick up the essence of the subject photographed.. (Isn't that what Emily Carr said art was all about?) Thanks for the experience...Cynthia

Dear Norm,

Thank you for posting your wonderful pictures. I think this is the best collection of Sony DSC-F505V pictures I have ever seen. I have owned a F505V for one year and have often visited the www.dpreview.com website to read about this great camera.

Now that the Sony DSC-F707 is available I had been eyeing it and wondering if I should get it and sell my F505V. The F505V was beginning to look dated and less desirable in light of all the build-up and excitement of the new cameras coming out. Well, since I came across your web site several days ago, you have renewed my appreciation for what the 505V can do and I think I will keep it and work on my skills as a photographer instead.

Your choice of subject matter is beautiful and interesting and though I live in Oregon you have helped renew in me an appreciation for the colorful and varied land that I live in. You are the Pekka Saarinen of the DCS-F505V!

P.S. How often do you use a polarizer lens?

Beautiful photographs, Norman. They make me wonder why I'm sitting at a desk instead of exploring the northwest coast.

Congratulations Norm.
You have wanderful pieces of work (about a subject that I, personally don´t really enjoy too much).
You can, however, give a particular touch to each composition. And this quality has nothing to do with personal tastes.
Best wishes,
