As a young woman I had an opportu nity to get aquainted with my Aunt Evelyn who had lived in Seattle since she left home at 18. She was lovely as a youth but a party girl according to family gossip.
She married well and often. At the time I visited her she was quite old. She had momentos of her youthful life everywhere.
She seemed to live almost totally and yet happily in the past. I saw her as an object of pity in my youthful intolerence. Now I'm older and have more compassion.
