Tyrone was built in 1834 by George Graham from Virginia. It sat on a 32oo acre plantation.
Mr Graham was prominent in both state and local politics and was named to the board to establish a state school - university. A site was chosen in Pineville for the Pineville Seminary for Learning. William Tecumseh Sherman (the Union general) was chosen as the first director of the school.
The school burned in 1869 and with Sherman's help federal lands in Baton Rouge were obtained and a new school erected in what is now known as the Pentagon Barracks. The school has moved again and is now known as Louisiana State University LSU
In the 1900's the house became neglected and fell into disrepair until it was purchased again and now operates as a wedding venue and bed and breakfast.
