A globally rare, federally endangered plant. According to the National Collection of Imperiled Plants, there are only 24 populations remaining in 4 states: NJ, MD, NC, and VA. It is rare or endangered in all states. This plant is an annual, growing in freshwater tidal marshes. The name arises from the leaves which curl up when touched. The plant is most abundant in VA. where there are 20 populations along 6 rivers. It is an S1 G2 in NJ.
