I was thrilled to see this gorgeous snake! An arboreal species, they can reach from 20" to 45" long! They eat mostly insects, snails and some small frogs. They are often found near water and can swim very well. This one was coiled up tightly sunning itself in a patch of Mountain Laurel shrubs. Thanks to my sister for spotting this incredibly difficult to find snake! Though it may look large in the picture, they are very slender (but long) and it was coiled up into maybe a 4" ball.
