October 2011 - March 2012 in Chiang Mai. We went three times, and for photos could have gone a fourth, but the incessant music was a little maddening. The highlights were the Royal Pavillion, and the floats at night (also maddening in their difficulty to photograph while on parade, given the crowds). The inside of the Royal Pavillion was protected with glass or perspex, so the fascinating murals of the king, reflected light bouncing from all sides. Argh! The floats did stop and park at the end, so were photographable, but some of the other night gardens were composed of flashing, fading winking, waxing and waning lights. Without a tripod, it was a challenge and a half. Beautiful, delightful, fascinating.
