Flowers, incense and candles on (mostly) banana-leaf boats. I saw these boats for sale for around 35 baht. In a tourist-frequented area, I still have trouble believing that I saw one being offered for around 1,000 baht. The Falang surcharge seemed extraordinary at the time, and I still wonder if I read correctly. I think I did, though. That's a 30X excess, and it's not as if these constructions were in short supply, or as if this particular one was of a unique quality.
The debris which would have gone into the river was astounding. Th vegetable matter would have been of little importance, but the fire-crackers being deliberately sent into the water would have created a lot of pollution. The exuberance did not consider this…
