On a very hot day, the lead mare begins to mosey toward the nearest waterhole. Others fall in line and the pace quickens to a gallop. The mustangs break out of the line and it becomes a free for all race to drink first, even as they are miles away from the water. The often-used trails leading to the waterhole are deep and dusty. This image was shot up from the bottom of a dry wash along the trail as the horses rushed by.
