Thank you both. It was late afternoon before sunset, so the light was beautiful. The bird was nest-sitting, so wasn't going to move...she stood up to adjust and the wind caught her feathers. I was zoomed in a bit too much to get her face when she stood - in order to get her head in the shot, I ended up lopping off the feet.
I really like this shot. The lighting is great, the exposure is perfect, and it's sharp & detailed. I love the composition too, with the windswept look and the bird looking down in a melancholy kind of way that seems to match the lighting and blustery look well. The only niggle is that we can't see his feet. Great image!
