4th - Des passionés, by Tom Pariz

With this image I wanted to tell something about passions in my life:

Photography is obvious, for this image was taken with a camera. Then it's music, jazz and classical, in classical Mozart especially. This partiture is a laser-printed sheet from his 'La nozze di Figaro', which I adore with my heart and soul. Then there's a brush, a special one that reflects my passion in classic art. Then there's a chocolate – a nougat covered with mousse, all wrapped in cocoa and dipped in melted chocolate – this one ispires me warmly when everything else ceases and dies.
Then there's a rose, yellow and red, that embodies a beloved one. Which one, you might ask? And those two chocolate nougats; does it mean something? Why is brush pointing that direction, which notes it "covers" and does that means something .. Oh, well, I can't tell you all. But who knows, dear observer, maybe this simple image whispers loud about all that .. and more.

Great shot, beautifully composed, interesting picture elements - work very well together. Excellent shading and texture. Very nice work!

John, Dennis, Alain, thank your for your posts. As I said before, this is highly symbolic image. All objects found there are just ideas, reflections of something else. Yes Alain, this image can go without chocolate, but then it makes no sense, because it's not still nature. I like to incorporate things that are not obvious. Dennis had a good guess -- yes that is a Series 7 brush! But no one guessed why both brush and its shadow overlap same notes on Mozart's music sheet ... eh! I admit, this image was inspired by my readings of "Da Vinci's Code".

Excellent still-life, Tom. Superb colors. Good choice of subjects. For an outsider though, the two nougat schocolate balls may not 'fit in the picture'. So now I am somewhat confused too... Ok, the challenge was about chocolate, so there had to be some chocolate in it ? I can very well imagine this pic without the chocolate, and even then it would still stand.

Cheers - Alain

I love everything about this photo, from the individual details like the handwritten comments on the "Marriage" to the drops of dew on the rose. The drops on the rose give me a sense of immediacy, as though everything just accidentally fell into what is certainly a thoughtfully composed shot. Is that a series 7 brush? Does that imply a new camera in your future? The red cloth made me think of a chef's outfit - don't know why. The red on the right border contrasts beautifully with the black on the top and left sides. As for symbolism, I'm not a good one to comment - I can't tell you what I made out of the two chocolate balls and the series 7 brush. LOL

Another beautiful and meaningful image MM. I like the contrasts of colour, shape and texture. The sheet of music provides a nice backdrop and teh brush does a good job of dividing the chocs and flower, both perfectly positioned. Your composition also works well with your use of the black negative space.
