light on water - niamh

I chose this image for a structure-texture entry because not all structures or textures are man-made. The swan could be interpreted as the "structure" since by its movements it alters the "texture" of the water ripples around it. I was very lucky with the sunset light though: I have several shots which are very similar in terms of framing to this one, but dull overcast light makes them somewhat bland.

BTW I know that from all the specks in the water, it looks like I used a very dirty lens! LOL! Actually my kit is spotless (almost) and the specks were all floating on the surface of the water. I could clone them out, but it would take forever... I figured they could stay in and add to the "natural texture" theme. ;)

This is beautiful.
THe mood could have more impact.
For more emphasis on the serenity, move the swan by cropping just below centre.
For a meditative tension in movement of water ripples, raise the swan just above the centre.
IMO of course.

thanks for the constructive comments guys. when i was doing the pp for this challenge, i also started off with the idea of cropping a little off the top to bring the swan off the centre line and make her larger in the frame... however, after i'd done it i much preferred the original to the crop. if i can get access to a faster internet connection i'll try to sort out a link to the cropped image so that anyone who's interested can have a look. thanks again! niamh

g'day Niamh - this for me is a signature Niamh image - full of light and space - and in context of this subject wonderfully understated. thanks

Hi Niamh,

I also like the calmness emanating from this picture. The nice lighting contributes to it's serene feeling.

Very calm and relaxed image, Niamh. I agree with Alain that it might gain from being cropped a bit more at the top.

Hi Niamh,

Very relaxing image you got there. The soft light is very pleasing. Oh, and I didn't spot the little spots in the water until I read your caption. Now they irritate me enormously ;-). I would crop the image little more in the space above.

Hi,
I like the composition but I think (just think) that I woul'd pushed the swam a litle bit above the center line.
