Thanks for your comments guys - LOL! Marc, I too find "simplifying" hard to do most times, it's just so tempting to add all sorts of embellishments in post processing! See the link I posted in the main c8 thread on the forum to my "alien eye experiments" if you don't believe me. :) However, when all is said and done... I've declared this to be a self portrait, so I don't want everyone thinking I'm really a bright green alien. ;)

The lesson is clear but sometimes difficult to apply: "Simplify !"
Great picture.

A great shot. Nicely framed and beautifully sharp. Works very well in B&W.

Thanks a lot for your comment and suggestion bracket - I did experiment with selective colour, but as my eyes are grey there was not much difference LOL! Playing with hue/sat in photoshop elements produced some rather weird and wonderful results, but none which I liked as much as the keepin' it simple version. However if I get a minute I'll post some of my experiments onto the forum and you can judge for yourself. :)

It's simply beautiful. I just wonder how it would look if just the iris and the reflection were in colour and the rest in b/w...
You've got gorgeous eyes [or one at least ;-)] btw.

Greetings, bracket

Hi Niamh,
Nicely done! I was wondering whether this was a self-portrait. The reflected arms were a bit of a giveaway. So now we know that you do really exist! ;o) Thanks for the hint about the autofocus beep.
I have entered a pic of Molly's eye. It's a different take on the theme.
Cheers, John

Hey, this is a marvellous picture. "En riktig höjdare", as we say in Sweden :-)

LOL! No "night before"! Dennis, why do you think I converted it to b&w and cropped the area underneath out!! ;)
Seriously though, thanks for your comments Alain, Veronica and Dennis - much appreciated!

There is so much to appreciate in this photo. One element that struck me was how the triangular highlight echoed the almond-triangle of the eye. The clearness of the white must have meant no "night before". (smile) Superb photo. - Dennis

Just tried it too. Looked nowhere near your result. But it was a clear sky, no clouds and I had dificulty keeping my eye open enough ;-) Practise, practise, practise, ...

Comments are much appreciated folks... I've had a shot like this in my mind's eye (groaannn ;) ) for a while now, but never got round to trying it out. No add-ons used. All I did was set my A1 to tele macro, flex focus point in centre, went into the garden and looked up at the sky, held the camera over my head (the focus-lock beep came in handy here) and took a few shots. I knew I'd have to crop in, so this was shot in raw and converted to tif using a trial version of Photoshop CS which I'm evaluating at the moment. Didn't do much post processing - crop, convert to b&w, adjust contrast/brightness a bit to make the reflection stand out and a small amount of USM. Oh, and a pass through noise ninja to finish it off. I didn't convert it to jpg until the last moment. The reflection's of the cloudy sky, with the dark silhouette of the camera being held up in the centre, over the pupil, and right at the bottom a couple of my neighbours' rooftops. Glad you like it!

Niamh, how did you get in so close, i've been trying to attain this sort of shot for ages and cant get anywhere near, are you using add ons?
Cruz 14-May-2004 20:52
Lovely…

tack sharp! and your title serves to draw the viewer in, attempting to decipher the reflection, (what is it ;-) ?. I'm used to seeing very subtle, gentle, and classically composed images from you - this image seems to stretch your vocabulary - I like it very much. Thanks.
