From John down under,

Another of my favourites too. Striking image that nails the theme. Even the trees seem to be dead, and form a guard of honour that frames and highlights the lone visitor rather than detracting from his isolation. I think B&W is the ideal choice for this one. I don't recall the original cropping exactly, but this is great. I agree with Barry that it would be useful to clone out the horizontal lines at the other end, although I don't see a car. Maybe you have already driven it away? LOL Well done!

Cheers, John

Great image! Another of my favorites. I haven't seen the original, but the new cropping works expremely well.

Turned out excellent! Subject is now very strongly presented, contrast is good and loneliness is not just physical but felt which is more important. Great work.

I revised my entry by cropping it slightly on the right and taking out the car in the background. Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Nice photo. I don't have strong feelings about the cropping .... maybe just a tad on the right, but I like the symmetry. What I would do though, especially for this theme is to clone out the car and the horizontal lines at the end of the tree tunnel.

Very nice shot. I agree with the previous poster, cropping some on ther right might help - maybe get rid of the tree in the direct sun. Very nice exposure and shading. Works pretty well for the alone theme also.
Regards,
Richard.

I think you are right about the cropping suggestion. I debated doing this with myself but I also wanted to get the arch effect of the trees showing but I think a slight crop is appropriate. When I saw the scene, I didn't have much time to set up the camera. As a result the photo was shot in Auto White Balance giving a very blue tint. I unsuccessfully tried to correct for the blue tint in PE2 but even though I got the white closer, the shadow of the trees on the snow still had a blue tint to it. I'm sure someone more experienced than me can get it to work much better. I even thought of entering the color version with a title like "Feeling blue visiting the cemetary".

Good composition and strongly relating to the theme. My advice: you could consider cropping a little from the right side to make it less symmetrical and I think that in color the picture would be even better...
