Well, the ditchlights in the photo are actually a set of dummies that were pulled off an Athearn RTR GP60M, but I'm sure a Details-West equivalent would easily work if you wanted to wire them up. The motor is the stock Athearn motor, and the DCC chip is a Digitrax 163P plugged into the 9-pin socket on the Athearn light board inside. - Robby F.

Gonna pick your brain a little mor, if you don't mind. What did you use for the ditch lights? Did you use the original motor, and what decoder? Thanx for your help.

Well, it's about time someone made them. It's the most obvious flaw with the athearn model. I looked at the receipt for the other parts, and determined that I started building 701 back in 2001. I tried a Kato AC4400CW, I even hacked up a perfectly good SD75M to get the window frames. I ended up building windows out of styrene, but I'm not totally happy with the way they turned out. What a waste, I'm sure the new casting is less than $5. Oh well. I love your website, by the way. I tend to lose track of time looking at all the great models. I only wish I had as much talent and patience.

Hi Dan, I used the recently released Details West GE style 4-window kit (Walthers Catalog part # 235-358) to update that two window Athearn model. I then used clear styrene behind for the windows. - Robby F.

Can you tell me how you built the cab with the correct amount of side windows? I have been trying for some time without much luck.
