Along the Mosby Highway: From Aldie Village to Middleburg
Images in this gallery were taken along the Mosby Highway between Aldie and Middleburg, along Snickersville Pike between Route 50 intersection and thd 1st Massachusetts Cavalry Monument, or along backroads that intersect the Mosby Highway.
Aldie to Middleburg
As we resume our journey on the John S. Mosby Highway, we head west from Aldie to Middleburg. This five-mile stretch of serene landscape along Route 50 has a rich past. Because of its prominence as an early trade route, the highway saw some of the more significant cavalry battles during the American Civil War, including the June 1863 Battles of Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville during the Gettysburg Campaign. Because of private efforts to preserve the area, the Aldie Battlefield site remains essentially intact, and modern visitors can see stone fences, farmhouses, and terrain that are very much the same as they were during the Civil War.
