A child is given a first and last name at birth by a monk and there is
no naming connection to the parent's surname. A specific first name
may be given to either a boy or a girl and some areas in the North
do not use a surname.
At birth, a child is considered one-years old and age is incremented
on New Year's day. A child born in late December would be two years
old just a few days later on January 1.
