NAAS Whiting Field Photo Lab Crew in 1960

The photolab at Whiting was in a section of the old North Field Chow Hall. The enlisted Men' Club was also in this building.

When we got off from work at 4 pm, we could go out a side door and walk to the club door, and several of the photographers did. Most often I went to the barracks, or stayed in the lab to play cards. Duty was every 4th night, with two photographers staying all night at the lab.

I have had two emails from people that knew retired Chief Petty Officer Ernest J. Gaines. One was a drinking buddy and friend that knew him a few years before his death, and the last one from a guy who helped load him aboard a banca boat for his last trip to the doctor. At the last he was overweight, and in bad health. He had to be carried to the boat.





BARBARA DIVER was a photographer in the lab when I was there. If you knew her pleas contact my. My gut feeling is that she is dead, but I still want to know what she did after leaving Whiting Field.

Hit Whiting Jan.59, worked center hangar logs/records. BTG's, went to Squadrons, was a plank owner in VT-6, May 60. E-2/E-3, in the training command. Four section duty, BS, was the same as boot camp. Hated that 18 month duty. June was sea duty, NAS Port Lyautey. Great duty.

I was stationed A Whiting from 6/53 to 9/56 Operations Div. Crash Crew North Fld. and Outlying Fld. Brings back memories, I wish I had taken time to keep track as you have of your buddies, I still have contact with one, Bill Miller of N.J. THM.
