Hoof Fungus Detail

A typical shelf fungus found growing on birch trees in northern regions of Great Britain. It is used in bushcraft for fire lighting because its hard charcoal like flesh (In particular the amadou layer above the spores) can be lit from sparks and burns slowly. It was found on "Ötzi the Iceman", a 5000 year copper age man preserved in glacier ice.
