I found this flowering specimen growing on the rocks of a ruined building in mid June. The name ‘biting’ derives from the strong burning-peppery taste of its egg-shaped leaves. This perennial succulent is often found on dry, chalky soils, although being well adapted for xerophytic life means it can be found in deserts and the Arctic.
