Nugget after he dropped his antlers

THE HERD
The weather is starting to show on these guys. They are loosing weight and constantly looking for food. Woodtick is not looking good and Limpy, even though he's thin, has made a remarkable recovery from his bad ankle. We noticed the coyotes have taken at least 3 and two fawns have died. Hopefully the snow will melt soon.

Well the bucks are loosing their antlers. This is Tiny Ted sporting one side. He dropped this one week later. There are only 5 bucks with antlers at this time. Goldie(big Eight), Ares (big ten) and three smaller bucks Freddy and Nugget both six's and Fraidycat an eight.

Beggar Doe, Matriach of the family with Skar 2008
Skar was the first buck that we identified and in the early years his constant companion was Too Tall, until 2007 when they went there seperate ways. We did not see Skar in 2009 and we believe that Too Tall died in the fall of 2008.

Unicorn
This is Unicorn. He is one of the dominant bucks. He was constantly chasing does and this picture was taken as he peered over a log at a doe below. Unicorn is very photographic but has quite a temper and I had to be on the watch to make sure he wasn't targeting his aggressiveness towards me. He chased everything out of his courting area and often would leave the doe to confront a buck he felt was too close.

At Sunrise
He just stepped into the light as the sun came up. We watched Unicorn on this crisp morning for about twenty minutes during which he showed quite a temper. He was stomping and snorting around a doe. Every time he blew his neck seemed to get bigger and as he stopped for this shot we noticed a small buck race through the area.
