Shutter Shy 86658

Gila Woodpecker in a Saguaro Cactus

Gila Woodpecker (Melanerpes uropygialis)
Saguaro Cactus (Carnegiea gigantea)

In the 3.3 years that I've used a DSLR, this was not only the first bird, but the first wild creature
of any kind that reacted to the shutter noise of my 20D out of countless thousands of wildlife shots,
ducking back into the cactus after every shot of the five shots I took of it before leaving it alone.

Photographed in the Sonoran Desert west of Tucson, Arizona USA.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
1/1000s f/6.3 at 300.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Another really cute shot, peeking out of it's little cactus condo. Nice capture Gordon.
