Anchor of the Marie Gabrielle which was wrecked here in 1869 while carrying tea from China to Melbourne. The three-masted French barque was driven ashore at 1am on November 24. All on board managed to launch a boat and safely reach the shore. But they faced long overland treks to reach civilisation. The anchor is embedded in the shore platform. There are great rockpools around the place here and I used one of them to mirror that part of the anchor which is sticking out of the rock to create the illusion your are seeing the other half below the water ...
In 1891 the barque Fiji struck rocks only 300m from this site obviously prompting the name ... Wreck Beach.
