These are two of several Greaters seen at Reelfoot Lake on the 2003 CBC. Notice how the head shape can change depending on activity. Notice the big head on both of these birds, and correspondig big bills. Greater has a deeper-based bill than Lesser, especially obvious in a direct comparison. Notice the size of the nail on the lower bird, and the way the bill expands out near the tip.
