Large crop of a soft and distant bird, but yellow malar shows well, as well as discreet thin bars on the tail that don't coalesce along the shaft. Very pale bird overall, with the head stripes not much darker than overall color so little contrast. This bird chupped a couple of times to clinch the ID, though I first saw it in flight with the slower, steady wingbeats indicative of Western vs frenetic flap and glide shown by Eastern. Western will flap and glide, but I've never seen Eastern do the steady flapping with no gliding often shown by Western.
