The 22 degree sun halo - 23 January 2009

Par, Cornwall, UK

These halos are caused by refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. They occur 22 degrees from the sun and typically mean a depression is on the way. Seen a lot of them recently.
