Giotto's Campanile -- a view from Brunelleschi's Dome
5617

Firenze (Florence)

The facade of Santa Maria del Fiore was completed in the 1870's after a design competition.
The various entries can be seen in the Museo del Opera del Duomo. The design uses the same
color scheme in green, white and pink Tuscan marble that Giotto selected for the Campanile.
Designed in 1334, the Campanile was completed in 1359, twenty-two years after Giotto's death.

Beautiful colors and light again! Wonderful to bring us along this way. I get that feeling of
chugging up the stairs and then coming on a scene like this (from times I did lesser flights of steps
to get to the view at the top). I like the dynamic framing of it too.
