McKee Ave Public School Photos

This selection of photos were taken by two people. Mr. Cober taught at McKee for a number of years and took the photo of our grade five class about June of 1961. I ducked down before the photo was taken as I didn't know that he was going to share the photo with us all. Actually he took two photos and his family will have the negative if it was kept. The other five photos were taken by my father W.C.H. Dowson. The two kids in the snow suits are of Mike Dowson on the left and Charles Dowson, me, on the right. Those snow suits were made by our mother. I still have the old and working treddle Singer sewing machine. There are two photos of little girls infront of the old Kindergarten doors of McKee. My sister Ruth Anne is far right of one photo and third from the right in the other photo. The photo of the boys has Mike Dowson on the right beside Mr. Alton, he's holding a baseball glove, Mr. Alton was our principle, next to the right of Mike is Theo. I am next to Mike and beside Mr. Alton. If anyone knows who the other kids are then please let them know of these photos. Added is a photo of Mike Dowson and Charles Dowson fighting over the family kiddie car, I am the victor. :) Charles Dowson

my name is fraser cCringan . my brother john told me I was in a picture of mckee ave school and there I am. front row third from the left.We moved to Maple shortly after and I do not remember many names . I do however recall my father pushing me on my bicycle through the school yard.I was sure he was still pushing me.I glanced behind he was way behind my first solo ride I still can feel the magic balance .And now all these years later I still enjoy cycling and own quite afew vintage bikes.My father was a music teacher at Earl Haig.

I went to Mckee from 1957 until 1963, there was a girl in one of my classes called Ruth-Anne Dowson who had a nasty fall in front of me while we were sliding on a sheet of ice in the school grounds, I believe she received a concussion and missed many days of school. Lorna Whalen-Norwood Was so excited 2 find this page and dissapointed not to see my name on the list with classmates and friends and even my childhood crush 'Jim Hilliard'sorry to embarass u Jim. I was still there then, even remember some of the teachers names. Forgotten.

Chuck, I'm pretty sure that my sister Janice (was Metcalfe) is on the left side of the photo of the 5 girls standing in front of the steps with Ruth Anne on the right side. As well I also had Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Martin for teachers at McKee and recognize the kindergarten porch behind the photo with Ruth Anne in the middle of the girls. I was 6 years behind all of you guys! Great to see these! Maureen Metcalfe-Tamm
