SW Turkey: Dalyan, Kaunos, Fethiye

We drove south to Dalyan, a very British town on the Mediterranean coast. We took a day boat trip primarily to see Kaunos, a Roman ruin; however, first we went to mud baths, a swimming hole, and a huge beach. The other passengers got off before we got to Kaunos at the end of the day, so the boat dropped us off and picked us up 1.5 hours later. The sun was setting and it was beautiful.

Leaving Dalyan, we spent almost a whole day in Fethiye and around it trying to find the rock tombs; we kept ending up in charming villages by the sea before we would realize we were lost. The Lonely Planet's directions and map were completely wrong. Two boys tried to describe the location and gave up and got in their car and led us to them.

i have just got back from turkey and it was fantasic,we have a villa out there. we did not have a chace to go to the mud baths and i have not got anypicture of it so i do not know what it is like have you been there?can you tell me what it is like please? abi x

Sally and Shirley, You almost can't go wrong anywhere you go. I wasn't particularly looking forward to Istanbul, but now I want to go back and spend more time there, it is wonderful. As are all the places along the SW coast. I would recommend every place you see at the bottom of my main Turkey gallery (the top ones are of central and eastern Turkey). I'm very envious--I spent 6 weeks going around the Greek islands in 1992 and it was wonderful. Have a great time! Mary Ann
