cemeteries are mostly considered sad, desolate
places. but they are also interesting,
and you can often find yourself surprised
by unexpected little discoveries.
and cemeteries are, to me, very tranquil places.

my collection is meant as a loving commentary on the
scenes i have observed in cemeteries, and i would definitely not
want to cause anyone any pain by including a picture here.

I have never found graveyards most interesting, did some rubbings on rice-paper years ago. Since I lived in the same area, I can give you some great hints to hidden gems, like graveyards for slaves, the civil war etc. Glad to see you find them inspiring and serene as well, good finds (though I think the MD one is a bit over the top)

Hi Mathilda, I too can relate with your words about this gallery. I too find them very interesting places to visit and find that such beauty can be found, from places of rest. Some people do think of them as morbid or think your weird for photographing them. Your finds are very interesting and beautiful, Mathilda. Its a pleaseure to have looked around them. Nice Gallery! You can tell a lot bout a community's history by spendin a while in the cemetery Some of the ones near me relate minin disasters and epidemics; others show great longevity within certain families - Ah find it fascinatin! ~V~ Mike :o)

I, too, love cemeteries, and find tranquility there as well. (Except when I see children's graves--then I'm just sad.) I love going to the old cemeteries in the East; most here don't go back much more than 120 years or so.
