The Gjøa is in good hands now, at last - she has been moved into a purpose-built museum building, similar to and right next door to the Fram house, so she will no longer be exposed to the elements.

Then I am going to do what it takes to creat a fund to restore this fine lady "GJOA". Please contact me on what needs to be done legaly.

Many years ago when GJOA was on display in San Francisco this small boat saved my live that winter. I was dry and wind and weather free. I became a volunteer live aboard watchman...Keeping those that woud damage her with disrespect. I am now a wooden boat builder who knows every crack and timber. Please make her seaworthy again.

I knew the ship as a kid in San Francisco, and have visited it twice in Oslo, the last in October, 2010. It looks like the museum is letting it go. The hull looks like it's rotting. Why not house it, like the Fram?

I am afraid the good looks are rather superficial. She is in a very sad state indeed, below decks.

Thanks for beautifully detailed close-up shots of Gjoa. But no thanks, sort of..!!! Now I have to go back and rebuild various parts on my model. And add some things that didn't show up on the plans that came with my kit 30 years ago -- such as the triple-line rope control for the steering. Wonderful!
