Palazzo Carignano

Torino (Italy)

Carignano palace
One of Guarino Guarini’s greatest works as well as one of the best examples of the Piedmontese baroque. This palace was commissioned by Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia Carignano, known as the Mute, and built between 1679 and 1684. Palazzo Carignano stands in the old center of town and features a unique facade in wavy brickwork. Both Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele II were born here (as states the plaque in the middle of the facade). Palazzo Carignano was also the site of the Subalpine Parliament, which can still be visited inside the Museo del Risorgimento.
By the way, practically everybody knows that the capital city of Italy is Rome, but how many know that Torino was the first capital city of Italian Kingdom, when the country was unified???
