Fribourg is an ancient town located on the Swiss plateau, and extends on both sides of the Saane/Sarine River, which, in the vicinity of Fribourg, has cut deeply into the molasse with a very impressive “canyon” effect.
We joke a little calling Fribourg a “frontier town”, since it’s set on both sides of the river which separates the two main linguistic regions of Switzerland.
On one side we speak French and on the other side they speak German...
In Fribourg they speak both!
