School Gardens

Shrewsbury, England

Shrewsbury gardens, once called 'Rotton Lane' leads down to a very old building at the end. Built originally in 1450, it became Shrewsbury school in 1550 and many notable boys attended over the years, including Charles Darwin. There were severe doubts about it's position as two prisons were also sited on Rotton Lane in the 16th century. Such places were very unhealthy and not good neighbours. In 1882 when the school became too cramped, it was moved to another area of Shrewsbury and the building was handed over to the town to be used as a museum and a library.

The contrast in the lighting is wonderful, Steve...the soft light of the fading day, and the bight lights of night. Perfect timing.
