Revamped

My favourite coffee shop has got a revamp and I have to confess that I'm not impressed.
It's cool (literally as the new oven wasn't lit), contemporary and admittedly not quite finished but I miss the comfy sofas, roaring fire, mismatched china and shabby chicness of the old version.

I agree with Alan about the reasoning for this sort of change. I'm so tired of all of the stores and restaurants looking the same and serving the same. This new design for your coffee shop has no personality. V

I can understand your ambivalence. It has a nice, clean style to it (I like the extended line of the counter and the table and chairs next to it leading through the shot) but it does seem to be a tad, how shall I put this... generic. It could be any cafeteria anywhere. They do seem to have a mixture of chairs, some purely wood and some with padding and leather seats, and I doubt that the latter at least would be UNcomfortable; but none are likely to be as comfortable as a couch. Which, I suspect, is the point. It will probably increase customer turnover as people will be less likely to buy a cup and linger chatting on a couch, so new customers can rotate through. It may make it less inviting but chances are that any competition is doing the same thing.

Very nicely lit and very clean and clear. It does look a bit sterile and a couch would be much more inviting than the hard chairs. "V"

I hear you...I liked your cosy shots of places you can nestle into

Will be interested to hear if they make more profit. Looks less welcoming somehow

this does look more functional than cosy...at least they still have mismatched chairs..

Interesting. People insist on change for the sake of change and it doesn't always work out for the best.

Well, the revamp is well photographed, but sorry you're not pleased with it! V.

I much prefer the older version, as you describe it. I'm not a fan of this kind of open "cool" space! V

Form your description of the old coffee shop I have to agree with you. This is nice and I like this image and point of view, but the old coffee shop sounds like it was so comfortable and atmospheric. V

It is not bad at all, though I can understand that the comfort of sofa is missing. V
