Out of the Ordinary

Snow in March is quite out of the ordinary for us in Ireland.
In fact, with the exception of the winter of 2010, we've had very little snow in recent years.
So it was quite a shock to find the fields covered when I got up this morning and even more of a shock to discover that the roads into town hadn't been gritted.
Turns out three of the Council's four gritters for this area were out of action for various reasons.
There were long tailbacks on the way to work and reports of numerous minor accidents.
Most of the snow melted during the day although it's still very cold for the time of year.

Amazing to think you don't get that much snow in March as I think you are farther north than we are. Must be the ocean moderates your climate. Beautiful photo.

You did get a great shot out of it...a pity the council weren't up to scratch though!!

What a beautiful scene! V
Very irritating for the "grifters" to be out of service.... Sounds like a lack of funds problem.

Wonderful, dramatic clouds! Snow in March is common here, my town got six inches (15 cm) last Friday.

Oh, I'm certain that City Council will get an earful for allowing so many 'gritters' to be out of commission at once. Not very prepared for an emergency! I hope you warm up soon.

Dramatic image. Global climate change is becoming more evident day by day.

Now that is an impressive sky! We had snow too but none settled this time.

Makes a very dramatic image though. The sky is fabulous and the white snow shows in the low light. V.

Wow, fantastic sky, and glad you got some snow as well, finally! I too would think it a bit unusual in March in Ireland. V.
Johnny JAG11-Mar-2013 20:38
Out of the ordinary composition too.

Love the sky in this late winter scene. v

You certainly made the most of it, though... -- and I loved the 'shock' of the snow at the bottom, as I scrolled down through that glorious sky....

I'd say "enjoy it while it lasts" but long, hot summers are not a typically Irish problem. Interesting arrangement featuring the gap in the backlit cloud there; almost suggesting that yes, the greyness of winter is still around but is peeling back to give way to the sun.

A very atmospheric scene under that lowering sky! V
