Food For Thought

While I was on holidays last week, I figuratively donned my apron (must buy one) and turned my hand to baking.
While I didn't reach Domestic Goddess status, I certainly managed to get in touch with my inner Irish Mammy.
I made brown soda bread, barm brack, banana and walnut muffins and, this beauty, a banana and walnut tea cake.
Now, I know this photo doesn't do it justice. I've been lurking around the food blogs long enough to know that there's an art to food styling and photography, and this isn't it.
I wasn't going to bother posting it and then I thought of all those photos which make it to top pages of the popular galleries - you know the ones - the badly taken ones of women with no clothes on.
So here's a bit of food porn for everyone to drool over.

Drooling engaged. And don't worry about not matching the professional foodie photos; I encountered a specialist in that field at a photo course once who explained some of the tips and tricks. To get the food to look so deliciously edible you often have to layer it with sometimes toxic gunk that makes it completely inedible. This, on the other hand, is the real deal. If I didn't know better (and I don't, because I've been away for a while) I'd almost think that you'd bought yourself a macro lens to do this. Whatever you used, it did the business.

Crumblingly tempting.

Irresistible! I bet it was gone before it cooled!

Hahaha, NSFW ... Not safe for waist!

Your photo isn't so bad, Mairead. You're right, photographing food in a way to keep it appetizing is very difficult. I've tried! So, I think that this is a well made photo that shows the nutty goodness. :)
And, I'm jealous because I'm not a baker. Very un-talented in that respect. LOL

I prefer cake to naked women too :-)

I'm having a sneaky look at your cake while Mandy is out of the room...

I'm drooling uncontrollably. More please.
