We took the Christmas decorations down today. I'm never too sure when they are supposed to be taken down. I'm not sure whether it's before or after January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany or Little Christmas, which is also known as The Women's Christmas (Nollaig na mBan) in Ireland, as in some parts of the country, it was a day when women took a break from housework and celebrated.
I like to keep the decorations up as long as I can so we took them down today. Packing them away until next year, it seemed as though we were packing more than just baubles and tinsel, but all those things, both good and bad, which happened during the past year.

Nice work, both the photo and getting things put away! I'm ashamed to say our tree is still up!

I like your idea of packing away the past year - adios to 2011.

quite the dance of light on these ornate treasures...V

Beautiful golden shot. We always take them down the day after Three Kings Day.

Its a shame that the attic see's more of the decorations than we do.

Lovely tones and light. From my understanding they should come down on the 12th day of Christmas i.e. the 5th of January since Epiphany starts on the 6th. V

It always seem like a fresh, new year when the decorations are put away. A lovely, golden image!

I understand what you mean, about packing up the ornaments. I took mine down today too. I love this pretty shot, Christmas packed away for another year. V

We took ours down the day after Christmas! Of course, we also have a little one and we got tired of trying to keep him away from the decorations. Lovely shot of your shiny gold ornaments. V

Very nice, Vote :)

This is a nice final shot of them.
Mine are still up, looking a bit ridiculous with the sun and blue skies outside. I think they'll be down today.

I wait until today too. Beautiful gold ornaments. They're so bright and shiny. I'm sure they'll be missed until next year.

A beautiful shot Mairéad.V.
We took down most of ours last night, and finished it off today.
Our house now looks so bare, as it was like a shrine to Santa!!LOL.

My sisterinlaw has a tree all year long. She has decorations for each season and special holiday. Not for me, but it does look very pretty. She is clever like that.

This is very pretty. it has the golden glow of the holidays! Have to confess, we take ours down on New Years. But we put them up early, at Thanksgiving time. V

We took our tree and most of the decorations down today too. We still have the upstairs to take care of, but that can wait until tomorrow.

I like the shot.

Mine came down yesterday too...there is something about carefully placing them away that I enjoy
Brian Samuel07-Jan-2012 22:32
Ours came down today too. The lights had to stay on until a minute before midnight to get the most out of them.
Unlike yours which are neatly packed, our tree decorations are spread over the table waiting to be wrapped and packed. Oddly, no one is rushing to finish the job.

All ready for the next one... :o) At work they took our down on the 16th!!!!

I guess if we didn't pack them all away they wouldn't be quite so special. I love the gold and the reflections.
Johnny JAG07-Jan-2012 21:08
Lovely shades of gold.
Alan K07-Jan-2012 21:05
Yes, that's why I don't "do" Christmas or New Year's; too much of a reminder of how much time has gone. The gold reflects the light well in this shot; it still seems somewhat festive in mood despite being the close of festivities for another year.
